No is such a small word but so powerful. On my journey to a healthier me I learned to say no to things that prohibited my self-care. We can be busy doing a lot of nonproductive things that keep us from having the life we truly love. Learning to set priorities and base my actions accordingly was a challenge and definitely began the journey of healing from the people pleasing disease. I felt horrible when I agreed to do things that I really didn't want to or need to do. This has been a process and so worth the challenge of change. When I learned the power of no and began saying yes to me, my family and purpose, my insight on life changed. I discovered everybody wasn't comfortable with me saying no with no explanation, and from a recovering people pleaser that is challenging to say the least. I learned I am not responsible for peoples reaction to me saying no without explanation. The more that I said no the easier it got and the freer I got. It is ok to tell your kids no not today mommy is tired and not feel guilty for nurturing yourself. Stop placing unrealistic expectations on yourself and learn to love yourself and your life. Make the decision today to say no to things that don't serve your life, priorities and purpose and say yes to living a life that looks good and feels good. Below I am sharing 5 things to do today to embrace the power of NO.
- Write a list of your daily tasks and determine what things you really don't have to do or you can get help and delegate tasks, hint hint You'd be surprised what those children of ours can do.
- Teach your children to respect your quiet or private time.
- Create a schedule (Time management will bless ya)
- Stop accepting and saying yes to things instantly and not even consulting your schedule or if it is for you to do.
- Say No without explanation to things that are not for you.
It's funny, I just listened to a podcast that talked about the same thing! Guess I should take the hint, lol.
